Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features several notable changes:
- Each team includes just eight human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Activities performed by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for players looking for alternative ways to enjoy the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.
Player Reactions: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while someone else details everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Player Feedback
All that said, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the community compromising in the middle, according to forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
