Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
