Fighters smirk as they ride on the rear of a utility vehicle, speeding alongside a series of nine lifeless forms and moving towards the sinking African sun.

"Observe such accomplishment. See this act of mass destruction," a fighter cheers.

The fighter smiles as he points the camera on his person and his associate militiamen, their RSF badges on display: "They are all going to perish like this."

The men are rejoicing over a mass killing that aid workers fear killed in excess of 2,000 people in the Sudanese metropolis of al-Fashir during October.

An Urban Center Isolated from the Outside

After maintaining the community under blockade for nearly 24 months, from August the RSF moved to strengthen its position and prevent access for the remaining inhabitants.

Orbital photography demonstrate that forces began to erect a massive berm - a raised sand barrier - surrounding the boundaries of al-Fashir, sealing off roads and preventing humanitarian assistance.

While the blockade intensified, 78 civilians were murdered in an militia attack on a mosque on mid-September, while the international organization said 53 more were murdered in aerial and artillery attacks on a displacement camp in October.

By sunrise on late October the RSF defeated the remaining army strongholds and took control of the primary headquarters in the city, the command center of the Army Division, as the government forces pulled back.

One of the most horrific footage to surface and analysed depicted the aftermath of a massacre at a educational facility on the west of the community, where dozens dead bodies were observed scattered over the area.

An elderly man clad in a robe remained by himself surrounded by the bodies. The individual rotated to look as a militiaman carrying with a firearm moved descending the stairs facing the individual. Raising his rifle, the shooter fired a one bullet at the man, who dropped to the floor lifeless.

"How come is this one yet alive," one fighter cried. "Shoot him."

Space-based imagery recorded on October 26th seemed to verify that executions were also conducted on the thoroughfares of al-Fashir, based on a report published by the academic research center.

One observer who provided testimony reported the individual had observed "many of our relatives getting executed - these individuals were assembled in a single location and everyone killed."

RSF Leaders Seek to Carry Out Public Relations

During the period that ensued from the atrocity, militia leader admitted that his fighters had carried out "violations" and announced the events would be investigated.

Part of the detained was following a investigation documenting his killings. Carefully staged and modified footage shared on the RSF's formal social media platform reveal him being escorted into a prison room at a jail on the edges of the city.

At the same time, the paramilitary force and associated online channels started seeking to alter the story.

Content depicting its fighters providing supplies to inhabitants were disseminated by several accounts, while the militia's media office published numerous clips purporting to show the humane handling of military prisoners of war.

Despite the digital initiative being deployed by the paramilitary, their conduct in al-Fashir have sparked worldwide outrage.
