President Trump Calls Relatives of Shot National Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence
President Trump stated on the weekend that he has invited the family of a National Guard member killed last week to visit the executive mansion.
He noted that he conversed with her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Devastating Event
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a attack on Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Gatherings across the state have been held in their memory.
White House Offer
The commander-in-chief explained he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the families of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president informed journalists. “And similarly with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Reaction
Attendees assembled over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to assist policing efforts in DC.
Honoring Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that instructors desired. She carried herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of her previous school, told the media. “She was sweet, caring and always willing to assist people.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Judicial Measures and Government Revisions
Officials have charged a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The incident led the government to suspend asylum applications and cease providing visas to owners of travel documents.
Status of Wolfe
The airman, a resident of the city, started his military career in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, per the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader the governor mentioned on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed the program that she planned to speak to the family.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with honor, according to the military.
“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had courage,” he informed the crowd at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
