Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot conceded that it's expected for questions to be raised about his future after another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got significant support from above,” the coach stated.
“It's important to change things and get a victory obviously but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I perceive the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this match yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Response
The manager lamented recurring shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a period such as this with performances so bad.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until it is removed, we'll continue to fight.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to the top, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
