Thrice-crowned MVP Nikola Jokic endures a 'gut-wrenching' injury to his knee.
Triple National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic suffered a "devastating" knee injury while the Denver Nuggets were defeated 147-123 to the Miami Heat.
The Serbian center was hurt late in the first half during an unintentional collision with fellow Nugget Jones.
His teammate came down on the footwear of the big man, who immediately collapsed to the floor grabbing his knee.
The star, who is leading the NBA season in boards and assists, posted 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to incurring the setback.
He is scheduled for an MRI scan on Tuesday to determine the severity of the problem.
"Right away, Jokic knew something was wrong," commented Denver coach David Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Any player who is injured, that's difficult, particularly a player as important as he is. We will know more tomorrow."
"The team will adjust together. Obviously, right now, I'm more concerned primarily about him as a person and the disappointment of experiencing an event like that."
